I live in West Winch near Kings Lynn.

I and my two brothers and one sister attended Little Thetford in 1956 /1957. If i remember right there were only two Teachers, a husband and wife Mr Mrs Parry. Our Family Payton’s originate from Ely and used to live in Steven’s Cottages on the A10 Ely Road. My Father and Grandfather used to live in a farm cottage down Quanea Drove. Does anyone remember our family and do you have any old photographs of the school from 1956 onwards. Our family moved to Wirral then North Wales. I now live in Shropshire.

I live at Quanea Farm and have done some research into the history. I believe that a Mr and Mrs Payton and their daughter Noll lived in a cottage which is now part of a house which is now called White Gates which was one of the farm cottages. If you’d like I can probably dig out more information.
Hi Nigel
Thank you for replying to my posting. If you have anymore information I would be very grateful. Mr Mrs Payton would have been my Granddad and Grandmother. Noll was my Auntie the last at home to get married. Noll married Dick Martin. She had Sisters May, Hilda, Noll and Betty. My Dad was the only Son Dennis. All are no longer with us now. Betty, who was the last to pass away, was married to Mac who also passed last week on the 4th.
My Dad worked with his Dad, from the age of 14, at Quanea Farm before the war – when there was cart horses’ working the land. He then joined the RAF and became a navigator and after the war he worked as a pig man for Mr Stephens (not sure if his name is spelt correctly). We lived in one of Stephen’s cottages on the A10 Ely Road. I have been to Quanea, many years ago, to visit my Granddad and Grandmother. The last time I came down to Ely was about 16 years ago and I went down the drive to take some photographs.
